Why 5-7 Days?

This is the sweet spot. Enough time to go beyond the standard tourist route, relax without rushing, and experience Ninh Thuan's full range: ancient towers, protected coastlines, highland escapes, and kitesurfing beaches.

This itinerary assumes you have a motorbike or car. Public transport in Ninh Thuan is limited.

Budget estimate: 2-3.5M VND/day (mid-range accommodation, meals, activities, transport)

The Route Overview

Base 1: Phan Rang (Days 1-3) — Culture, vineyards, nearby beaches Base 2: Vinh Hy (Days 4-5) — Snorkeling, Nui Chua trekking, remote coast Base 3: Binh Tien (Days 6-7) — Kitesurfing, Song Pha valley, northern coast

Day 1: Phan Rang Arrival & Cham Culture

Morning: Arrive in Phan Rang. Check into hotel/homestay.

Afternoon:

  • Po Klong Garai Tower (7km west) — 1.5 hours. Ninh Thuan's most iconic Cham site.
  • Bau Truc Pottery Village (15km north) — 1.5 hours. Watch traditional pottery-making, browse showrooms.

Evening: Dinner in Phan Rang. Try bánh căn (rice pancakes) or bánh xèo.

Overnight: Phan Rang

Day 2: Vineyards, Ninh Chu Beach & Ca Na

Morning:

  • Thai An Vineyards (12km northwest) — 1.5 hours. Drive through vineyards, visit small wineries, taste local wines. February-April and July-August are harvest seasons.

Afternoon:

  • Ninh Chu Beach (5km east) — Lunch and swimming. Relax on the sand or try seafood at beachfront restaurants.
  • Ca Na Beach (35km south) — Late afternoon drive. Dramatic rock formations, lighthouse views, sunset.

Evening: Dinner at Ca Na (grilled seafood) or return to Phan Rang.

Overnight: Phan Rang

Day 3: Nai Lagoon & Po Rome

Early morning:

  • Dam Nai (Nai Lagoon) — Arrive before 6am for the seafood market. Watch boats unload fresh catch, try blood cockles and sea snails. Bring a translator app if you don't speak Vietnamese.

Late morning:

  • Po Rome Tower (15km from Phan Rang) — Smaller, quieter Cham tower dedicated to the last king of Champa. 45 minutes.

Afternoon: Free time in Phan Rang or optional visit to Ninh Thuan Museum (small but informative on Cham history).

Evening: Pack for Vinh Hy. Stock up on snacks/supplies if needed.

Overnight: Phan Rang

Day 4: Transfer to Vinh Hy & Snorkeling

Morning: Drive to Vinh Hy (45km south, ~1 hour). Check into homestay or resort.

Afternoon:

  • Vinh Hy Bay snorkeling — Rent snorkel gear or book a boat tour to offshore coral spots. Water is clearest February-August.
  • Swim, relax on the small beach.

Evening: Seafood dinner at a beachfront restaurant (Vinh Hy specializes in grilled fish and lobster).

Overnight: Vinh Hy

Day 5: Nui Chua National Park — Hang Rai Trek

Full day trek:

  • Hang Rai Beach — Book a guided trek with Nui Chua rangers (arrange 1-2 days ahead). 5km one-way rocky trail through dry forest to a protected coral-rock beach. Sea turtle nesting site (May-August).
  • Duration: 5-6 hours total (2 hours in, 1-2 hours at beach, 2 hours out).
  • Bring: 2L water/person, snacks, hiking shoes, reef shoes if swimming.

Evening: Rest and easy dinner in Vinh Hy.

Overnight: Vinh Hy

Day 6: Transfer to Binh Tien & Mui Dinh Lighthouse

Morning: Drive north to Binh Tien (80km, ~2 hours via coastal road). Stop at Mui Dinh Lighthouse along the way — clifftop views, short hike, photo-worthy coastal panoramas.

Afternoon: Arrive in Binh Tien. Check into beachfront bungalow or guesthouse.

Evening:

  • If visiting November-March (wind season), arrange kitesurfing lessons for Day 7 with a local school.
  • Walk the beach, watch kites if it's wind season.

Overnight: Binh Tien

Day 7: Kitesurfing or Song Pha Valley

Option A: Kitesurfing Day (November-March)

  • Morning and afternoon kitesurfing lessons or practice. Binh Tien has consistent wind and several schools offering beginner courses (~1.5-2M VND for 2-day beginner package).
  • Lunch break on the beach.

Option B: Song Pha Valley (Any season)

  • Drive inland to Song Pha valley (40km, ~1.5 hours). Highland landscape with Raglai minority villages, Sakai waterfall, cooler temperatures.
  • Time needed: Half-day to full day depending on exploration depth.

Evening: Sunset on Binh Tien beach. Final seafood dinner.

Overnight: Binh Tien or return to Phan Rang if flying out next morning.

Optional Extensions

Add Day 8: Ca Na Salt Fields

  • Detour to Ca Na salt fields on the way back to Phan Rang. Best visited December-May during salt harvest season. Watch workers rake salt into pyramids, photograph the geometric patterns.

Add Day 9: Bau Trang (White Sand Dunes)

  • 50km northeast of Phan Rang. Small desert-like dunes good for sunrise photos or sandboarding. Less crowded than Mui Ne's dunes.

Accommodation Notes

Phan Rang: Mix of hotels (300-800k/night) and homestays (200-400k). Book near the center for easy access to restaurants.

Vinh Hy: Homestays (300-500k) and small resorts (600k-1.5M). Book ahead in peak season (January-April).

Binh Tien: Beachfront bungalows (400-800k) and guesthouses (200-400k). Accommodation is basic but beachfront location is excellent.

Transportation

Motorbike rental: 100-150k/day in Phan Rang. Gives maximum flexibility.

Car with driver: ~800k-1.2M/day. Book through your accommodation. Less flexible but comfortable.

Self-drive car: Possible if you're comfortable with Vietnamese traffic. Rentals available in Phan Rang.

Packing for a Week

Essentials:

  • Sunscreen (SPF 50+), hat, sunglasses
  • Reef shoes (for rocky beaches and snorkeling)
  • Hiking shoes (for Nui Chua)
  • Swimwear, quick-dry clothes
  • Light rain jacket (if visiting September-December)
  • Cash (ATMs in Phan Rang, limited in remote areas)
  • Portable phone charger
  • Translation app (minimal English outside Phan Rang)

Optional:

  • Snorkel mask (can rent, but bring your own if particular)
  • Drone (for coastal photography)
  • Camping gear if trekking/camping in Nui Chua

Best Time for This Itinerary

January-April: Peak season. Dry, sunny, calm seas. Best for snorkeling and beaches. Busier but still not crowded.

May-August: Hotter, still dry. Sea turtle nesting season at Hang Rai. Good for trekking.

September-October: Shoulder season. Less predictable weather but fewer tourists. Check forecasts.

November-March: Kitesurfing season at Binh Tien. Strong winds make this period essential for kiters.

Budget Breakdown (Per Person, 7 Days)

Accommodation: 2.1-5.6M (300-800k/night × 7) Meals: 1.4-2.8M (200-400k/day × 7) Transport: 700k-8.4M (motorbike rental vs car with driver) Activities: 500k-2M (entry fees, snorkeling, trekking guides, kitesurfing) Miscellaneous: 500k-1M (snacks, drinks, souvenirs)

Total: 5.2-19.8M VND (~$215-820 USD) depending on comfort level and transport choices.

Mid-range realistic estimate: 10-14M VND (~$415-580 USD) for 7 days.

Final Tips

  • Book Nui Chua trek 1-2 days ahead — rangers aren't always available for same-day bookings.
  • Carry cash — card acceptance is spotty outside Phan Rang.
  • Download offline maps — cell signal can be weak in Nui Chua and Song Pha.
  • Learn basic Vietnamese phrases — English is rare outside tourist hubs.
  • Don't over-schedule — build in beach downtime. This isn't a checklist race.

If you have a week in Ninh Thuan, you'll leave with a deeper sense of the province than 95% of Vietnam visitors. Take it slow, talk to locals, eat everything.
